Amazing Grace

2:08 PM

Monday afternoon rolled around again and it was nice to park and see a line forming already. Both groups of people, the volunteers and those in search of a meal were expectant, hungry and ready. Pastor Virginia (more about her in a future post) took the microphone and spoke about these verses:

Matthew 22:8-10
Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come.  So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’  So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.”
Correct me if I am wrong, but weddings usually have a guest list that has been meticulously planned and thought about months in advance, right? It’s customary for people to RSVP and show up to celebrate with the happy couple. Matthew 22 shows the opposite.
A wedding banquet had been planned, but it didn’t have any guests. Crazy, huh? It’s even crazier what happens next. An order is given to gather up anyone from around the town and bring them in as guests. Anyone the servants laid eyes on “good and bad” was to be invited. This friends, is amazing grace. That all who listens to the invite and go will be part of the banquet being prepared. The good, bad, rich, poor, educated, uneducated, men, women, homeless, owns too many homes, and anyone who accepts the invite.

In other news, pasta with a meat sauce, bread, water and juice were handed out. Those who stuck around close to the car enjoyed desert and left content for the night.
